Fuel Mitigation Grant Public Meeting

From the City Of Coeur d'Alene:

The City of Coeur d’Alene has collaborated with the Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management team and the Idaho Department of Lands to successfully apply for and receive a grant for fuel mitigation work to reduce the risk of fire on Tubbs Hill. This grant will fund nearly $600,000 worth of fuel reduction work on the Hill. This initiative will not only help reduce the risk of fire in this treasured natural area but also improve forest health. After a brief freeze on grant funding, the project is now in the planning phase and will soon go out to bid. The city will host a public information meeting on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Coeur d’Alene Library Community Room. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

All Coeur d’Alene community members and neighborhood groups are invited to attend the upcoming meeting to ask questions and provide input and recommendations to ensure that the draft code addresses neighborhood compatibility. The meeting format will be a Zoom webinar with a presentation, live polling, and an opportunity for input and questions. Attendees will have an opportunity to be called upon to speak, similar to council and commission meetings.

The virtual meeting will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in the Coeur d’Alene Library Community Room from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

 Tubbs Hill Fuel Mitigation Planning.

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE FLAGGING ON TUBBS HILL.

The City of Coeur d’Alene Urban Forestry office, in conjunction with the Kootenai County Operation of Emergency Management, are in the planning phase of a Fuel Mitigation project on Tubbs Hill. Project management crews and City staff members have been on the hill flagging and marking trees/brush in order to identify work areas as this project enters the bidding phase. As you enjoy this natural area you may notice these flags and markings. Flags do not signal removal. They are used to identify work zone boundaries.

Over the last several weeks flagging has continually been removed by members of the public. The city asks that you DO NOT REMOVE FLAGGING, this will only cause a waste of public funds as staff has to redo the flagging. Please forward any questions you may have about the project to the Urban Forestry Office. There will be public meeting announcements beginning in April, 2025 where interested members of the public will have the opportunity to hear and view information about the work plans. Tubbs Hill remains open and accessible to the public during the planning phase, this goal of this work is to lessen the risk of wildfire and to improve the health and aesthetics of this treasured natural park.
